Recreation

D.L.C.R.S. believes recreation and community integration are an integral part of child/youth development. The children/youth of all functioning levels are enrolled in a variety of programs to meet their interests and functioning levels through Toronto Parks & Rec., Variety Village, Scouts Canada, YMCA, after-school clubs/programs through their schools, and other programs to meet their interests.

All children/youth have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. Over the years the children/youth have participated in a variety of programs that may include Jr. Chef in training, Special Olympics, swimming lessons and leisure swim, skating, bowling, martial arts, computer skills, robotics, dance, basketball, Best Buddies, Boys to Men, and Dance clubs to name a few. All children & youth are supported by our trained staff in any program/activity they may choose to ensure they are successful and have fun. On the days/nights when formal programming is not in place the clients will participate in; going to local libraries, malls, shopping, local hikes, and exploring local parks and or doing activities in the home.

Camps

Summer is a favorite time for the children and youth as well as the staff members.  The opportunities made available during the D.L.C.R.S. summer day program are vast and varied.  The children and youth have the opportunity to go to Wonderland frequently as D.L.C.R.S. secures season passes.  We also travel to many Provincial Parks/Conservation Areas for a day at the beach or to explore other fun activities, such as; Niagara Falls, Sand Banks PP, Silent Lake PP, Kelso Conservation, CNE, African Lion Safari, Marineland, Center Island, Cherry Beach, and many other opportunities throughout the summer months.

Some children/youth have the opportunity to be involved in summer day camps through Toronto Parks & Recreation, and Variety Village Camp, which provide various activities throughout the city, social activities/events, and summer fun.

D.L.C.R.S. also provides some of the children and youth the opportunity to attend overnight camps for 1–2-week sessions.  We have sent children & youth to Belwood Camp & Lodge, Shadow Lake Camp, Fraser Lake Camp, Scouts Camp, Tim Hortons Camps, and other overnight camps the child/youth may benefit from attending and or is interested in.
